Ho ho ho, l4d2 authoring tools released

Posted: December 24th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Left 4 Dead 2, Tech stuff, updates | Tags: | Comments Off

Left 4 Dead 2 Add-on support and Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring tools can now be found in your tools tab in Steam.

Hopefully this will lead to some custom campaigns being released soon. Dead before Dawn is a personal favorite that I would love to see in l4d2.

Bots are coming for christmas..

Posted: December 22nd, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Team Fortress 2, Tech stuff | Tags: , | 1 Comment »

The missing items are coming soon. All of us missing out on the new items when getting the milestones are of course looking forward to trying the new guns.

Valve have worked on bot AI in TF2, and have support for bots in three koth maps: koth_viaduct, koth_sawmill, and koth_nucleus.

The magical console command is..

tf_bot_add [count] [class] [team]

The three arguments are optional. Count is a number (duh), class are the Valve name for the class (eg pyro) and team is either red or blue.

Adding whisper shortcuts bugged in Mumble 1.2.0

Posted: December 21st, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Tech stuff, updates | Tags: | Comments Off

My handy tip about whispers showed to be a bit moot since there is a known bug in the 1.2.0 release.

The workaround is to disconnect from the server after making changes to your shortcuts, instead of just closing the application.

You can also try the latest snapshot, which fixes the bug.

All mumble servers upgraded to 1.2.0

Posted: December 17th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Tech stuff, updates | Tags: | Comments Off

As of now all our servers have been upgraded, and thus demand a 1.2.0 client.

I found out how to create shortcuts to separate channels directly, see the picture. What I’ve done is to bind NUM-/ to join channel and NUM-0-2 to whisper certain channels. Then I can press NUM-/ + NUM-0 to get to the root channel directly. Pretty neat.

Mumble 1.2.0 seems really good

Posted: December 16th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Tech stuff, updates | Comments Off

We have started the transition to 1.2.0 on our mumble servers, with a closed beta test today. Overall the sound quality is even better than the 1.1.8 version.

Two things to consider when updating:

  • Please check so that compression isn’t too low. It should allow at least 40 kbit peak.
  • Have your password handy when connecting for the first time to a server that has been updated to 1.2.0

tf.muppfarmen.se gets some love

Posted: December 11th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Team Fortress 2, Tech stuff, updates | Tags: | Comments Off

I have installed HLStatsX CE on tf.muppfarmen.se as well now.

We’re going to try to mix up the maplist a bit with a mix of standard and custom maps. Rumours say that there is some demand for a low ping swedish server with the possibilities to run custom maps. Since we have the infrastructure in place, including fast download of the bzip2-versions of the maps from a web server we figured we can offer this.

We will take into consideration suggestions for maps to have in the mapcycle. Add a comment here for instance!

HLStatsX CE update

I’ve been fiddling with the web server part now and fixed some apache rewrite rules in order to make the signature generator work. Also the php-gd package has been installed, so that graphics are rendered OK.

The daily awards are now calculated a few minutes after midnight the following day.

Testing HLStatsX on the KotH server

Since psychostats doesn’t seem to update OK for the moment I’ve decided to try out HLStatsX CE.

You can check it out here.

We’ll run it for a few weeks and see how we like it.

The guys over at l4dmods have posted a step-by-step howto on how to get the original campaigns playable in Left 4 Dead 2.

Read all about it here.

I hope someone releases a .vpk edition soon so that the dedicated servers can be updated easier.

Mumble 1.2 now in beta

Posted: November 13th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Tech stuff | Tags: | Comments Off

Mumble 1.2 has now reached Beta status. I have upgraded our internal server to this release and tried out the new beta client today.

Get it here.

The new 1.2 protocol is not compatible with 1.1.X, so server and clients should be upgraded at approximately the same time. I don’t see us moving to the 1.2 on the real servers until 1.2 reaches gold. However, the 1.2 client contains an extra binary that is 1.1.x compatible, so you can install the beta client if you wish, and still be able to use our servers.

One sweet feature with 1.2 is that it contains authorization using public/private keys instead of passwords, and you can actually register a user from within the client itself. I just tried it out and it works great.
